Case Study: Keshi: The Zuni Connection

Keshi (kay-SHE) is the traditional greeting of the Zuni Pueblo people who live in beautiful western New Mexico. Keshi: The Zuni Connection was established in 1981 as a co-op for Zuni arts and crafts, and has always maintained personal relationships with individual carvers, jewelers and potters. Keshi and their web designer Think All Day asked our team at Albuquerque Software to build a customer notification system that would automatically and intelligently notify their customers when fetishes or other artwork is added to their online store. CartCurator is the platform that we built in order to turn their needs into reality. is hosted on Shopify, which is a great system for companies that don't want the hassle and expense of managing their on e-commerce system, but it brings its own complexities, especially when intense customization is needed or a store needs to be integrated with a third-party system. CartCurator enabled these customizations to be completed at a fraction of the time and cost of a fully-customzied system.

Product-to-customer matching is a very custom thing for each store, and systems that work for some companies don't work well for others. For example, a broad matching algorithm that works for Amazon is not a good fit for an art gallery which sells unique items to collectors. Because of this, we spent a good bit of time with Think All Day and Keshi in order to determine exactly what they were looking for, how things might evolve as they go forward, and how their customers used their site and made purchases. From these meetings and Keshi's experience with their customers, the team decided that the best solution is for the customers to be notified when a new art piece is displayed which matches an artist they are following, is made of a material that they like, and/or is of an animal that they love. The match algorithm is run each time a new piece is posted, and emails are sent at least once a day to the customers that are interested in Keshi's new artwork.

CartCurator is designed to be highly flexible and customizable for any customer alert needs. This could include looking at customer's purchase history, using opt-in criteria like what Keshi used, subscribing to alerts based on general search terms, and nearly any other criteria that your company needs.
