Case Study: Stone Forest

Stone Forest has crafted award winning designes for the bath, kitchen and garden, sculpted from stone, bronze, copper, iron, bamboo and wood. Stone Forest was founded by Michael Zimber in 1989. Michael’s relationship with stone and water began in his early 20s when he worked as a climbing and river guide. Fascinated with the beauty of the rock cliffs he was scaling, he began sculpting blocks of stone in his spare time. After "living the life” as a guide for 10 years, his mother told him to get a real job. Mike figured she was probably right and started thinking about how he could take what he loved about being in the wilderness and somehow bring it into people’s homes and gardens. Stone Forest was born.

Twenty-five years later, Stone Forest is a group of artisans and designers focused on bringing the elegant simplicity of natural materials into the bath and garden. They take their lead from nature’s blue print, emphasizing the quiet beauty of stone, bronze, copper, wood, bamboo and iron in their studio in Santa Fe, NM.

Stone Forest and their web designer Think All Day asked our team at Albuquerque Software to integrate their new Shopify-based e-commerce store with the freight shipment companies that they use. They wanted to add real-time shipping quotes and have their online customers automatically pay the freight charges when they check out. is hosted on Shopify, which is a great system for companies that don't want the hassle and expense of managing their on e-commerce system, but it brings its own complexities, especially when intense customization is needed or a store needs to be integrated with a third-party system. CartCurator enabled the customizations needed by Stone Forest to be completed at a fraction of the time and cost of a fully-customzied system, while complying with Shopify's user interface and integration requirements.
